Planes
The main interest for me in Fixed Wing aircraft is the design and build side. The objective is to maximise the flying performance characteristics, within the purpose envelope.
This is impossible with already designed kits.
It is also difficult with balsa as changing moment arms etc. entails major surgery.
This is why I prefer SPAD's ;
1) Cheap to build (around £10.00 max. for materials)
2) Maintenance free.
3) Materials are readily available.
4) Quick to build (2 to 4 hours maximum) and modify a design.
5) Great fun for minimum outlay.
6) Ideal for Combat.
7) Ideal for single person hand-launch or R.O.G. flying.
8) Great as Winter or Summer "Hack" due to it's strength and unbreakability.
8) Fly as good or better( if designed properly) than a balsa equivalent.
9) Keeps the Hobby fun, not an exercise in profit making for the Model shop.
