This Web Site's main functions are  ;

a To record my RC Designing / Building / Flying progress (warts and all).

b)  To help beginners avoid the pitfalls and frustration I experienced.

c)  To help would-be designers avoid wasting their time so they know that a particular design will work, even at the design stage  !

d) To supply known quality plans, if they are good enough, to allow others to benefit.

(There is nothing worse than building a design , then finding it performs like a dog, especially after all that  work !)

e) Home to Ted's planes (someone had to give them one ! )

f) Keep a record of HWDMAC Combat meetings and the League Table scores for the Combat "Hooligans".

g) To document difficult to find Technical Information such as Helicopter Setups etc.

h) To stop re-invention of the wheel   ............... !!!!!!!!!!!!

i) To make obsolete the so-called conflicting field "expert" advice.

Introduction

While Balsa built aircraft also feature, these tend to break too easily for me, especially when ;

a) learning how to fly.

b) trying new complicated aerobatic manouvers.

c) test flying a new design.

The cost of replacement is also prohibitive.

Because SPAD aircraft can be designed, built, and repaired so quickly and cheaply, the main design thrust is on these model types.

This of course, does not mean that design is limited to plastic either.

The "Perfect" Combat Plane

A penchant for quicker, more manouverable Combat (.40 size) designs will be apparent.

Ideally, the perfect Combat plane should be ;

a) fast.

b) stable but highly manouverable.

c) capable of tight turns and loops at speed.

     (Haven't quite got there yet, but I'm close to it !!!!!!!!!!!!)

Constructive comments and suggestions for improving this web site are always welcome.

Constructive comments about improving flight characteristics are even more welcome !

Help / Advice on designs always available. Sharing information works for me !

E-Mail these to me at   ian@spadfactory.co.uk

This is me on a freezing cold, windy day in January 2005 - thanks for the picture Vincent  - I've hidden your Heli so it's not in the picture !

Notes

Regardless of the Web Site name, I have no interest in turning a fun (supposed to be) Hobby (note that flying Model Aircraft is now officially designated by the CCPR as a sport) into a commercial Enterprise !

This site is hosted by www.GetDotted.com.

The site is nominally for 800 x 600 (leaning more towards 1024 x 768) VDU screens upwards,so if viewing at higher resolution the spacing between pictures may not be perfect.

Decals used for the individual plane are on the heading. These are made from Inkjet paper from www.overlander.co.uk
