Flackwell Field
For those unfamiliar with the flying field (patch), here are some introductory shots. The Sun and the Combat Gods shine occaisionally on the Hallowed ground. (view towards the entrance gate) View from the gate to the patch.
The patch is divided into 2 strips (runways) for safety reasons as per the diagram below.
An uphill view of the shorter cross strip (strip 2) is below. A downhill view of the same strip (strip-2) An uphill take-off view of the longer strip (strip 1) is below. A downill view of the same strip (strip 1)
Pros and Cons ; 1) Large open area (height and width). 2) Lots of Trees and hedge obstacles. 3) More difficult to fly than a normal patch due to uneven ground and hedges in landing paths. 4) Limited facilities. 5) Cow fence around strips in Summer. 6) Car parking is 100yds away, as is the field from the gate. 7) No car access to field. 8) Wind currents (upwards and downwards) over trees and hedges is "interesting". 9) No restrictions on flying days. 10) 10:00am to Dusk flying times.
